@Billy Rapp that's how I was, I'm not going to Red Lobster & order a lobster out of the tank, like that as in Summer Rental,, if it's already dead it's ok, as long as it's not me that caused it to die

@d ́buC Well maybe you just remained human. Normal reaction. In my opinion there is reincarnation and one day the "animal" souls will end up being human, too. Once we devided slaves and humans. Maybe it is about time to stop making this pet/food devision. We could save 15% of greenhouse gases by changing to vegan as a species and we could save 50% of farm land if we cahnge to vegan as a species. We are in big crises. Done correctly one can eat vegan without any deficits. There is a lot of misinformation about veganism, for example most soy grown where once rainforest was, is fead to farm animals! 90% goes to animals. So if you want to save the rainforest again: Stop eating animals and animal products. Cows only give milk when they are pregnant regulary. The calves are seperated from the mother often after minutes. That is big trauma to the animals. They suffer a lot. Some farmers quit the buisiness all together, because it is haertbreaking to them. There is no (cheap) way to get cheese and milk without suffering for the animals and without slaughtering the 5 year old cow, because it stopped being effective. That's why I quit eating any animal products and love these kinds of videos. We have to dare to sty human and have an open haert and not fell for the animal eating propaganda that is all around us, in which we got raised.

It’s crazy to see how lobsters can actually show depression. He barely moved when you first got him. He literally gave up in life. It’s honestly crazy to think this is the same lobster you made a huge effort in giving him the biggest tank ever all the way in Georgia. He’s full of so much more life now compared to when this was recorded

@X Man maybe you should look this up... the very first google result proves this if you look up "do arthropods feel pain". But keep telling yourself they don't to feel better about yourself. I bet you think fish don't feel pain either. They do. I'm not saying to go vegan because I definitely eat meat and seafood, but at least know what the hell you're talking about before spreading fake news.

Humans often have such little respect for animals and don't realise the beauty in mother nature. Treating animals with kindness and helping them live a good life is very rewarding as they often give us so much happiness back without realising it.

@Pied Piper uh, yeah uhm, looks like I could possibly have really been on one that night. In my defense sometimes punctuation is HIGHly overrated. One needs look no further than Faulkner, Tolstoy, ect., ad infin.. K? Howmuhdoin' so far today? Djuh get o' loada those 2 periods back there? One 4 the abreviation and one 4 the end of the sentence. Sometimes the clearer heads prevail I suppose, but, you know I think sometimes it's not all it's cracked up to b. Take for instance of o in the interest of what when we're using the microphone the microphone doesn't punctuate Force at all right. Sometimes it even mistakes the word Force for the phrase for us. Which leads to the grammatical question is the word combination for us actually a phrase or is it just a word combination? As you can see there Pied Piper your inquiry here can lead into some really marshy territory. As I think I made use of two periods or so in that last post there so many months ago I feel pretty safe in saying that the clarity and continuity of most of what was written was pretty much intact. I can definitely guarantee the veracity of everything that was written being a great lover of the truth. If my punctuation bothers you that much I'm telling you what, you've got some real sorrows ahead with the things that I see posted from these idiot barely literate youngster's. /££

Hello Brady - I'm a marine biologist. Loved your video! You can tell a male from a female from the first set of pleopods or swimmerets. On the male, the first pair are hard and large. On the female, they are small and flimsy. Leon (or Leona) almost looks a bit like he / she is approaching molt. I see that from the dark / bluish tinge I see around the knuckles. That is not the best identifier. If I could look at one of his / her pleopods under a scope, I'd be able to tell with 100% certainty. Also, lobsters LOVE to hide in cracks, crevices, holes, etc. If you got him / her something he could hide in, he'd love that. When he does prepare to molt, he'll flop on his side and appear like he's dieing. Don't sweat it. Sit back and enjoy the show!

I have always heard that the more red lobsters are, the higher their stress level. Do you know if this is true? It seams as though Leon is getting more blue (natural lobster colour) on his shell like what you would see in the ocean vs a grocery store tank. 😊 Great video!

@Travelin Ted You people overrate letting animals be in their natural habitat when it's more than likely always the case they're worse off in their natural habitat. Obviously I'm not saying that a penguin would be better off in a tropical climate but in the case of a lobster do you really think it cares where it's at as long as it's comfortable and it's not gonna be eaten? You're probably somebody who goes to a zoo and feels bad about the animals there because they "look sad". They're getting taken care of, being fed multiple times a day, and don't suffer the risk of being something's prey. And living way longer lives than their average lifespan in the wild because of these factors.

this was so great. thank you for doing this! i hope there's updates. (i think people get too fixed on what is "food" vs what can be a pet and it's really all just arbitrary. almost any animal we consume could also be a fantastic pet, with more personality and funny things than you'd expect.) i also liked this on a deeper level because as a kid, my mom and stepdad would get lobster sometimes.... and one time i saw the ones that were live, sitting in the sink. they were so cool and one was bluish and immediately i named them. then i saw the horror that happened to them. boiled alive. and the thought of that end, plus the smell - i was smelling the death of these cool things that USED to be alive......... i was inconsolable. had to leave the house. (went next door.) i mean, yeah, objectively lobster is good. so are a lot of things. but i still feel bad for the loss. a lot of these creatures are so cool, and yet we end them. at the least we all need to have a little respect for the sacrifice (that they didn't choose to make.) so anyway............ thank you for saving leon, however long that lasted. he must've felt like he reached shrimp Valhalla, suddenly free, suddenly eating, losing the dead-eyed stare, using his limbs again. it was an inspirational rehab.

Leon is one lucky Lobster. When I worked at a grocery store seafood department, I hated seeing the lobsters all crammed into the small tank. They were always so stressed, and we were not allowed to feed them, I absolutely hated it! I also hated when someone would want one cooked, I could not do it I would have to have my manager from the meat department come and do it for me! I am happy to say that the store has sense gone out of business! I hope you live a long and happy life Mr. Leon the Lobster! You are in a very caring family and by the looks of things you are spoiled to the core! lol nothing wrong with that..

@Anouke If something was attacking you in whatever way, you would try to stop it. Maybe they do feel pain, or they don't. But what I was trying to say in my first reply is that, people care about specific animals. If humans at snakes, for example, people would care that they would feel pain and that it's sad. But since people mostly don't eat snakes, they are feared by millions
Anouke 4 күн бұрын
@Anthony Ortega people used to say the same thing about octopuses, and squids. Now they're saying the opposite. A quick Google search actually says that there is evidence that lobsters and crabs actually do feel something akin to pain. They might not feel pain in the same way you and I do, but if something is nibbling at their leg, and they're alive, they're going to try to get that thing to stop nibbling at their leg for a reason.
Anthony Ortega
Anthony Ortega 4 күн бұрын

You don't typically boil chicken alive, so kind of a different situation. I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan or anything like that, but I refuse to eat crab, lobster, or anything that is boiled/cooked alive. If aliens ever took over this world and decided humans made good food, I would hope that they would have the decency to kill me first before cooking me.

I wondered about that right away. Once you adopt a pet and start investing money and bonding with it, you feel a sense of responsibility for its continued welfare. It's not 100 years for lobsters, but it could be over 50. Fortunately, there are aquariums and zoos which will probably accept Leon one day. Then Leon will be able to spend the rest of his/her life with other lobsters and have plenty of room to scuttle around -- and lots of people to watch.

As a scuba diver, I've seen wild Lobsters in the Ocean. They actually swim backwards faster than a human can swim forwards. They flap their powerful tail to soar through the water. They keep swimming backwards until they've landed in a cave-like spot between big rocks so their back is protected by the cave and they can defend their front with their large pinchers. Leon needs a hiding place where he can feel safe. This is probably why you find him backed into a corner.

@Dame Drops while i agree with you im not sure what would constitute as fully grown for a lobster, obviously becoming an adult is probably what you mean, but lobsters can grow indefinitely given the time, food and space to do so. So, technically speaking, a lobster is never fully grown. Just a fun fact. But, yeah, no, i always felt bad for them and still do. Poor guys.

This reminds me of this Lobster I used to see in the tank at the store when I was little,I named him Fred and went to see him in the fish deli area sometimes.. One day he disappeared and I didn’t know what happened to him.. Till years later when I realized…

I genuinely never realized lobster forelegs ended in little claws of their own. For a creature that is so widely known, I've never actually seen a lobster eating, much less a closeup of how it eats. Go figure.

@Kaz Maras wow you live so carefree that you have time to empathy with food. Slavery is part of society have you learn history? Human do worse to each other just see news and gruesome crime but it's the individual. And also eat other animals. It's law of jungle. If you feel you can survive without consuming other substance go ahead try. I find it's funny People live in modern world so long they forgot law of survival. And start doing movement that their food have right lol. Morality is luxury and morality to other species that you eat , mean you live a ridiculous protected rich life

Wow! I actually had you saved in my watch later list for I don't know how long now. So I finally decided to clean up the list and watch a few more. You know how when you're watching your list it automatically plays the next video. Well that's kind of how you popped up. But I couldn't be happier! I am so intrigued by the visitors you have had in your aquarium and I loved getting close up and personal with Leon. You have the perfect voice and demeanor for making these type of videos. It's almost like watching the nature program on PBS. I can't wait to see what other videos you have. Going to search your page now. I do wonder what happened to the jellyfish and Leon?

I grew up in the later 90s and early 00s and I would always see the lobster tanks in the super Walmart by me. They probably were in other stores, I just remember the one in my super Walmart. It was like this big island and I'd always go up to look at the lobsters and in my little kid brain wanted to keep one as a pet. Mind you reader, I practically grew up in a zoo. Various cats and dogs, pet turtles, two ball pythons, and an older brother who was (and still is) the American crocodile hunter. Name it my older brother's probably caught it, even though we never kept any of what he caught growing up more animals have been in and out of that house than friends of mine have. So then I grew up a little bit and found out why the lobsters were there. I wanted to get all of them and set them free, not really understanding there's really no close body of water and they wouldn't survive in my state's bipolar weather. I'm honestly glad I don't see them anymore, I never really got the point as to why there needs to be live lobsters for sell. If you want to eat lobster just eat an already dead one or go catch one yourself and dispatch it quickly to limit the pain.

I know it's a lobster, and probably not on the same level as a dog or cat, but he genuinely looked bummed out in the box. Almost like he knew his time had run out. The change in behavior and the association of your presence with feeding was so cute. He seemed super happy keeping busy in his tank. They live a pretty long time in the wild if they avoid predators so mayby this would be a good pet. I'm glad he's happy and healthy

you know why we say "not on the same level as a dog or cat"? Because we know could be wrong and everything is on the same level. We have no idea about how a lobster or other animals and even humans experience life. Like you say. Its obvious theres a change in behaviour. You even say "like he knew his time had run out". Yeah u might just be completely right. But that would mean this whole "level" thing would collapse and reveal how hypocrite we are by making differences of the value of certain animals life. Like what does that even mean "not on the same level"? There is no answers from science about anything like this. we have no idea about cat, dog, whatever experiences life. Thers simply no facts. But we just decide there must be a difference. Higher beings, lower beings. And all this without evidence. I mean we cant even be sure anybody else than us is consciouss or has feelings. You can just assume it because u take yourself as a reference and say "i have feelings, im human, so others have it too." But theres no evidence that rules out that this could be wrong. And the old thing with projection. Its not the lobster that was bummed. Its not the lobster that is happy. When u watch this video u think the lobster looks bummed out or happy. Thats what u think and since thoughts create feelings u felt this. Like its totally your impression. We have no idea how that lobster feels since he doesnt tell anything. I mean can u tell me the body language of "A happy lobster" or "a bummed out lobster"? Like what does that look like? can u give me a definition? 😅 ideally a definition based on evidence of the lobsters feeling. Can u tell me without looking at the video? Like in general what do happy lobsters look like. well.......i think it becomes really difficult now 😅 Not hating. I just think its funny how we humans always view any other living creature like they are humans. What if lobsters cant feel bummed out or animals in general and thats why they dont commit suicide because they only feel happy. But maybe they dont feel anything. Only physical stuff like pain/hungry etc.
