As an avid hunter from Florida, we have a close relative of the Puma here. The Florida Panther. Slightly smaller than the average Puma.. but no less intense. Had one steal a kill from me once. Stepped into a clearing in a palmetto thicket and a panther had my pig. No argument from me.. his/her woods.. her/his pig. Sure I had a .308 but it’s bolt action. If I missed… someone else would have found the pieces it didn’t like. Beautiful animals. Frightening on their own terms, without cages and handlers. But still majestic, and inspiring. Kudos to these two animals lovers.

I’ve followed Messi for years and agree this is the most well-rounded and respectful video of his story that I’ve seen. His owners are incredible people, and as for Messi, he’s very intelligent, but also a total goof ball. He’s a 3 year old child in a puma costume, and I think he knows he’s living the good life. Well done guys on giving this family the credit they deserve! This is no Tiger King scenario for the haters.

@Duane Cabot So two things; you made the comparison yourself and now you're moving the goal posts when someone else brings up the downside of said comparison. Second dogs, especially mistreated dogs, are on average more aggressive than puma which tend to be shy and avoid people. Lastly the overall point I'm making is that *any* animal that's not appreciated or taken care of will become dangerous.

Messi's story is an amazing one and an amazing display of the love that humans and animals can form. Even if you aren't out there taking care of mountain lions, you should still respect that these animals are capable of love, compassion, and caring for their loved ones. For those of us who live around wild animals, it's best to admire them from a distance--but hopefully Messi's story can help you respect that they are not just automatons that reproduce and eat. That they care, they have feelings, they think. And they deserve to be here as much as we do. We should protect wild habitats and wild animals as much as possible--and we should incorporate that into the design of our cities and neighborhoods.

That is truly a unique story! I could not believe my eyes when he was getting his claws trimmed, how relaxed he was was unbelievable! As far as the animal rights activists go I think Messi is happier where he is than in the wild. I've seen some fairly tame Wildcat stories but this just takes the cake! Years ago when I was in high school I took on a summer job as a Keepers helper at the local Zoo and got acquainted with a white tiger they had on exhibit named Kalif. I was allowed to scratch him on the head and make him purr, that was a rush hearing a big tiger purr like a house cat! Something I'll never forget!

@Pet Hedgehog While I don't generally recommend people to keep snakes, I think the bit about snakes (even large ones) killing people as soon as they get hungry is a bit of a myth. You're more likely to get injured or killed by a dog than by a Burmese python (i.e. the most dangerous large constrictor snake), as the dogs tend to have more bite force than the snakes and are instinctively more predisposed to attack unprovoked than the snakes (which pretty much only bite in self-defense or to feed, while cats and dogs may bite out of overstimulation, boredom, territoriality, etc.). Most years there's an average of 2 human deaths in the world to non-venomous snakes of all species, while the statistic for dogs is about 0.009 per 100.000 inhabitants in Europe per year (so about 702 deaths worldwide, assuming no big regional differences), the differences being even greater when it comes to non-fatal serious injuries or hospitalizations.

@Alexander Artaza dogs 10-12k years, cats 6-9k years (tho most cats are not fully domesticated even to this day because they are more coexisting with us rather than being our companions) tho i must say one thing, domestication and taming are 2 different things, yes the instinct exists and demesticated animals have that supressed but taming from a young age is a really powerfull force, yes the puma knows its a top tier predator but it has respect just as we do. Its less about defaults and more about experience and understanding, as long as the animal has the capability of understanding feelings it has the capability of changing its dos and donts. Stuff like snakes and crocodiles is the thing that will never be safe cause they lack that part of cognitive function and as soon as they get hungrier than normal and you seem weak to them you will get eaten (by snakes i mean the anacondas and large pythons cause other snakes would rather flee from you).

Not really, the ones that happen are really big exceptions, the instinct thing is real, and the reason we have dogs and cats is because of thousands (i think thousands i really dont know this part) of years trying to tame them and they instincts just went out

@Soul Flame This is wrong. A house cat is domesticated, whereas a puma is not. Therefore, the potential danger is not down to personality of the animal but to the fact a puma is a wild animal and a house cat is not. The example shown here is an anomaly - but the potential danger of this “house puma” is still there because it is not a domesticated species.
Soul Flame
Soul Flame 5 ай бұрын
@deprofundis Yes, I agree with you, I did look it up and you're right. You can correct me if I'm wrong on what I'm going to say. My point was that "house cats" are just as wild as a Puma is. For example: my cat listens to the house rules. One day a dove flew in my living room by accident and I can assure you there were no house rules anymore for my cat. All he could think about was catch the dove, nothing else existed. So the idea that a "house Puma" still has it's instincts is equally true for a "simple house cat". What makes the animal more dangerous is not just the instincts but the size. My cat can't pull me appart because it's too small while a puma can. It's the same with dogs: a poodle can't pull me apart but a rottweiler can. Same thing: it's it's size and strength that makes it potentially dangerous. In the case of Messy, it's not just the fact that it's a puma, it's also his personality and the love that makes Messy suitable for being a "house Puma". My mother has a cat that hisses and scratches to any one that comes too close except her boyfriend, he is the ONLY one that can pet her. She is not dangerous because she is too small for that. If she was the size of a Puma, she would be extremely dangerous to have as a domestic animal. So the discussion if a puma, or other wild animals, as a pet is dangerous or not is also a matter of personality, and how the relation is. Nature is full of examples of strange friendships between animals, like a bird that sits all his life on the back of a horse. The day the bird died, the horse was very sad. Or a dog in a shelter that shied away from the other dogs and prefered to play with the goats and befriended them. The dog started to show behaviours of goats, and the goats started to show behaviours of a dog. That are just a few of the many examples that exist. What do you think?

@Sam O also a biologist from the department of fish and wildlife has recorded several wolves killed by cougars, she is a scientist who studies the animals and concluded that they puncture wounds to their heads were caused by cougars after examining their bodies. Some bumpkins who live in the area disputed her claim despite the fact that they did not even see the bodies or wounds let alone examine them. Those are official recordings of cougar kills on wolves whereas there are 0 records of a single wolf killing a single cougar. Cope.

Messi is an incredible animal who's gratitude and love is without question amazing. The couple that care for Messi should set up a shelter perhaps to help other species, because they have done an unbelievable job in bringing this exotic beauty back to health. This type of love from a puma is priceless. My uncle had a pet puma in Mexico who died unfortunately when they decided to declaw him and the vetinarian did not calculate the amount of anesthetic properly. Seriously this was a very sad event & a great loss that my uncle always regretted. Best Wishes to Messi and his loving family.

@Brandon Haygood That's How it should be. Nature is wise, so petting and humanizing wild animals and predators goes against nature. This is a rare exception, cause they rescued and saved the life of the puma when he was a cub and the animal knows, I have lots of respect for them for saving the puma, you can tell the animal looks great and love them and they actually love and take good care of , but theres rich people who buy these animals and humanize them and you know..keeping that animal like a pet is like buying a Ferrari to keep it on a garage and never drive it. Every single muscle of a puma is naturally born with a purpose, and thats to live free and wild.

And for being the good stewards of animals, as we all should be as a moral responsibility God has charged us with. "Train your children from their earliest days to be infinitely tender and loving to animals. If an animal be sick, let the children try to heal it, if it be hungry, let them feed it, if thirsty, let them quench its thirst, if weary, let them see that it rests. Many laws around the world are rather sick - you can trap or shoot wildlife, but cannot keep them without a rehabilitator's license. Doesn't matter if the animal is happy and well-cared for or , less often, even if the animal can voluntarily come and go as it pleases.

Cats are cats. They are all the same, it's their size that changes. I would adopt a lion if I could, but they are on the big side and need a lot of space. People have BIG ASS dogs that I could never afford to feed, but they HAVE them just the same. This situation is justified, Missing is smaller than my friends Great Danes, Mastiffs and St. Bernard. Missi is a small cat in comparison.

You know once upon a time humans were wild animals living in the forests etc. and eventually became "domesticated" with a ridiculous amount of creature comforts. Why do you think Messi would be happier being sickly, constantly worrying about being attacked by predators, always hungry and searching for food, sleeping out in freezing cold and rain, and never having affection? If you actually watch their videos you will see he prefers being inside the home where he can sleep on the couch or bed, eat fresh meat daily and have treats, having play time daily, being rubbed, massaged and pet every day, and feeling very loved. This family has done their homework on how to care for their animals and work very hard to keep them healthy and happy. I am so happy they rescued Messi, and now his sister Gerda. These animals have pure love for them.

The level these people seem to have Messi at truly makes me think they’re his saviors. He probably looks at them, and alexandr moreover as the people who took him in when he really wasn’t living a good life, and they saved him. Dogs express this emotion after trauma and house cats do aswell and to me this looks like a cat that has fully given himself over to his people. The trust he must have to not only take commands but to be around all those people with little to no skittishness is astounding to me. Feral cats are skittish and pumas even more so. To see him just chilling with all those kids around seemingly having a good time is beautiful. He’s not uncomfortable like many of the cats used for petting shows are. All his body language signs show content and even genuine love for getting pets. He’s like a dog in that respect. I’d seen clips of him but to know his story makes me feel so happy because his people are just as awesome as him.

This is a special circumstance that the Puma required more care and attention than a wild life preserve would be able to offer. I have a great deal of respect for these people.

Messi seems like an extraordinarily kind, gentle soul. Like a house cat, he's only ever known life in captivity and being reliant upon humans since he was a tiny baby. Look at the way he interacts with people, he's very similar to a housecat while indoors and a common dog outdoors. He isn't a threat to anybody. Releasing him into the wild would be a death sentence.

@BuildGUY If it decides to attack and you aren't looking, it's game over. It would be like having an absurdly strong, lanky teenager blindside you with claws and fangs. It's the claws on the back legs that will definitely do you in, if it doesn't crush your larynx immediately. It's either you or them, 50/50, but if it gets the drop on you, you are done. Well, unless you are like that one crazy dude who punched one down its throat, and got his arm ripped off with it still lodged in. The puma choked to death.

A deeply touching, joyful story. I found myself hoping like crazy nothing bad ever happens. Messi is tame, not domesticated, but it certainly seems as though his caretakers know what they’re doing. It’s just that you only have to screw up, have something happen that is out of your control, or with one of those little kids, just once and just for a split second, and a wonderful story becomes an awful headline news crawler. Still, raising Messi was clearly the compassionate choice, and therefore one I fully support. Love is always a risk.

You've done an amazing job with this PUMA & given it a second chance in life..! 🙏❤️ PUMA's loves to run & leap high..! You guys should take him to an open area not frequented by humans and allow him this freedom once in a while...! All the more better, if it is a rocky/mountainous area...! Initially you guys should use a very very, very long rope/leech...! BEAUTIFUL ; ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL .. ie both you guys and the cat...! 🙏❤️❤️👍🏻

Super cool . Always love a happy ending . I'm sure there's lots of critics but if they have the time and the means to take care of this beautiful creature and he's happy and well cared for ,may the critics be damned . I envy that relationship . I've had cats most my life and I've had several encounters with wildcats in the woods and each time it went without incident and was actually a pretty cool experience . I've always wanted to have at least a bobcat but it's definitely a big responsibility to try to domesticate a truly wild animal such as this let alone dealing with the legal issues or the paranoid neighbors 😅 Years ago when I was a service technician I ran across a customer who owned two bobcats and it was definitely an experience walking around their house doing my job with a bobcat following me everywhere I went . One thing I picked up on right away was that they're very protective of their owners ,just like how some domestic cats are . One thing is for sure I wouldn't want to be the fool to try and break into these people's home . I'm sure Messi would mess them up .

The love that surrounds the 3 of them is beautiful to watch, I'd bet my life that if they were to take Messi away from them then Messi would die of a broken heart in no time. As a cat owner, I'm more impressed with them being able to train a feline with commands, a big cat at that! I try to call mine by her name to come closer and she looks at me like I owe her money. Edit: just incase people might assume my cat is a dick, she isnt, shes very shy and actually very loving towards her cat dad (me) but shes still a cat so she naturally wants her privacy at times, so hence the look of death she gives :)

I’ve been watching Messi videos for years. People need to understand that Alexander doesn’t forget for a minute that Messi is a cougar and that he could be dangerous. The difference is messis temperament and ability to interact with other animals and people. Alexander only lets his guard down when he’s at home with Messi, in a controlled environment. Messi is just different. It’s like that once in a lifetime dog that you’ll never forget. Never really had to train him he just sort of understood you. That’s the way I see Messi, minus the training part. Haha. I’m sorry but anyone saying that he should be in a preserve or some other “cage”, I think that that cat would be dead inside of a month if he were to leave Alexander and his wife’s care. Sorry I don’t remember her name. It’s not to take anything away from her, she’s 100% committed to Messi as Alexander is. Without their dedicated care Messi wouldn’t even have survived.
